Humboldt Boys Seek State Berth

When coaching changes are made, it is usually a new head coach that has the biggest impact on a program. But Humboldt boys coach Ron Abernathy and girls coach Chandra Maclin are excited about the addition of a strength-and-conditioning coach to help both coaches continue to build their programs.

"A strength-and-condititioning coach will help us get in shape and make us physically prepared," Maclin said.

"We were allowed to hire a strength-and-conditioning coach, and that has made a world of difference for this year," Abernathy said.

In recent history, Humboldt boys teams that have had some standout seasons. This year's group of Vikings believe that the 2016-17 season could be another big one for the program.

"I have four players returning that are seniors," Abernathy said. "This is my third year with them, as they were sophomores when I started, so they have been in the program."

Jarred Walker is one of those seniors, and he is the mastermind of the offense at the point guard position. Kortland Martin is back after averaging 11.2 points per game last year.
