Text(s):

Integrated Science Tennessee Glencoe (textbook and workbook)

ISBN:978-0-02-137759-6

1st Quarter Focus Standards:

7.PS1: Matter and Its Interactions

1) Develop and use models to illustrate the structure of atoms, including the subatomic particles with

their relative positions and charge.

2) Compare and contrast elemental molecules and compound molecules.

3) Classify matter as pure substances or mixtures based on composition.

4) Analyze and interpret chemical reactions to determine if the total number of atoms in the reactants

and products support the Law of Conservation of Mass.

5) Use the periodic table as a model to analyze and interpret evidence relating to physical and

chemical properties to identify a sample of matter.

6) Create and interpret models of substances whose atoms represent the states of matter with respect

to temperature and pressure.

ACT STANDARDS

CLR 302 Draw simple logical conclusions in somewhat challenging passages.

IDT 402 Identify a clear central idea or theme in somewhat challenging passages or their paragraphs.

WME 301 Analyze how the choice of a specific word or phrase shapes meaning or tone in somewhat challenging passages when the effect is simple.

SYN 501 Draw logical conclusions using information from two informational texts.

USL 401 Show adequate use of language to communicate by: ●correctly employing many of the conventions of standard English grammar, usage, and mechanics ●choosing words that are appropriate

2.NBT.B.5. Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.

3.OA.C.7. Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers and related division facts.

2.NBT. A.1. Know that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones (e.g., 706 can be represented in multiple ways as 7 hundreds , 0 tens, and 6 ones; 706 ones; or 70 tens and 6 ones).

Student Responsibilities:

Students are responsible for being on time to class and to bring their textbook, workbook, pencil, and paper.

Classroom Expectations:

Students are expected to be on time to class, prepared and maintain a calm quiet learning environment.

Classroom Rules:

  2. Do what you say you will do.
  3. Do what is morally right regardless.

Classroom Procedures:

The class will complete 1 to 4 lessons in each week, reading 5-8 pages a lesson answering 6-8 question to be submitted for homework, followed by a weekly Quiz/assessment.  Quizzes will finish the week on Friday.  Exams will follow the completion of a unit.  Projects/labs will be conducted in class when feasible to schedule.

Classroom Consequences/Rewards:

Consequences will be varied from exercise to isolation.

Rewards will be varied from free time to homework passes.

Attendance:

Attendance will be taken every class period directly after the tardy bell and reported to the office.

Tardy will addressed per the student handbook 3 tardies equal one absence.

Students who are absent with an excuse will have 3 day to complete makeup work.

1st Quarter Focus Standards:

8.PS2: Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions

1) Design and conduct investigations depicting the relationship between magnetism and electricity in

electromagnets, generators, and electrical motors, emphasizing the factors that increase or diminish

the electric current and the magnetic field strength.

2) Conduct an investigation to provide evidence that fields exist between objects exerting forces on

each other even though the objects are not in contact.

3) Create a demonstration of an object in motion and describe the position, force, and direction of the

object.

4) Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion

depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.

5) Evaluate and interpret that for every force exerted on an object there is an equal force exerted in

the opposite direction.
